Have you heard about our classroom bundles?

Buy classroom bundles for your next school event

Choose from two bundle choices

Besides being great gifts for family members and staff, the 25 or 30-book bundle can be shared directly in the classroom by organizing a reading-day event.

The Smucker Company, a commercial wall and ceiling construction service, donated books to children at an elementary school in Chestertown, Maryland.

Depending on the number of bundles purchased, we recommend choosing a third-grade class (or 2nd up to 5th grade) and ensuring there are enough books for every child to receive a copy. Contact the school’s principal or your main contact there and ask to host a career hour about construction, mentioning each child will receive their own copy to take home. The Grit Leads To Greatness website can provide references and the ability to share an electronic copy of the book if the school needs to approve it. We also have testimonials from our local principals, attesting to the book’s value.

We encourage members of your construction team to read aloud to the children while they follow along with their own copy. Some people read the whole book themselves, others split the reading with a colleague if more than one wants to participate.

Why 3rd Grade?

At 3rd grade, kids start to dream about what they want to be. Studies have shown that it’s an age when kids think more complexly about how the world works. Our book showcases how construction impacts humanity and teaches the power of GRIT. We’ll be able to positively reinforce the construction trades while creating a new generation of construction workers, advocates and champions of the industry. By each child receiving their own copy of Grit Leads To Greatness and taking the book home and reading it with their parents, we have the opportunity to change the parent’s stigma of the industry from dirty and disrespected to noble and necessary.

With that being said, we have presented this book from 2nd Grade all the way up to 5th Grade and the kids have loved it at every elementary grade level. Although the reading level is higher for those below third grade, we have heard from parents and teachers that the book has been read to younger kids and they have enjoyed the world-class illustrations and great adventure story. The choice is yours who you decide to share the books with. The most important part is to be enthusiastic about the industry and impart your knowledge and love for construction.

Why gift each child a book?

According to a leading literacy group, Reading is Fundamental, a significant number of children living in poverty in the United States don’t have books in their homes. Study after study demonstrates that children who are surrounded by books grow up to be more literate, educated, and productive adults. Showing kids the value of books is not expensive, but it is life-altering.

By each child receiving their own copy, taking the book home, and reading it with their parents or guardians, we have the opportunity to show that the industry is both noble and necessary. In addition, we hope these children look back on this book and remember an empowering story that was brought to them by the construction trades.

How can I enhance my guest reading experience?

We encourage the construction industry members/reps of the company to read directly in the classroom. We’ve found that the people who bring props like hard hats, safety vests, tools, tiles, etc. bring their jobs to life and make it exciting for the kids. Companies can also bring in company swag fit for children if you so choose. Be sure to enlist someone on the team to help take photos/videos to post on social media channels for even more exposure and goodwill. Please tag us on social as well @GritLeadsToGreatness. Be sure to get permission from the teachers who can be photographed. The most important thing is that we inspire kids to greatness and we, as an industry, take control of the future by changing the way the world sees the construction trades.
